THE BEST NATURAL LIP BALMS

It's dry inside and out this time of year where I live. The indoor plants need some extra spritzing and so do my lips.

In the service of smackable, happy, and petroleum-free lips, here are my favorite natural lip balms:

Badger is a really mindful family business that makes a line of classic lip care that is certified organic, has fair trade ingredients, and comes in different flavors sure to please your palette (like ginger & lemon or pink grapefruit). Me, I opt for unscented, but it's still slick and slippery with a subtle, lovely sheen. And it works! For summertime or winter sun activities, I like Badger's SPF 15 lip balm. Also, almost all Badger's products score 0 to 2 in terms of hazard according to Skin Deep's database!

Chivas Skin Care's vegan lip balm gets rave reviews from everyone I know who's tried it. It has 75% organic ingredients and a blend of emollients and oils to moisturize perfectly. It would best be described as rich and velvety with a faintly fresh scent (thanks to peppermint and citrus). Plus, it's handmade by a mother-daughter team in CA.

If you want some color to go with your balm, there's Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer. These tubes are not organic, but they do shun really unnatural ingredients that you probably don't want to be eating. Plus, they're awfully pretty.
